ANDOVER, MA—HAMLET-The Clown Prince, a comedic version of Rajat Kapoor’s Shakespearean tragedy will be staged in Andover, MA on August 28, 2022
Presented by the Academy of the Creative Arts in collaboration with Prayog Theater Group – NJ, the play will be staged at 5:30 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Performing Arts, located at 100 Shawsheen Road in Andover.

Java Joshi and Hetal Joshi, the founders of the Academy of Creative Arts in Burlington, MA, said they were trying to build an audience for posh experimental theater in the Boston area.

HAMLET – The Clown Prince is an internationally acclaimed play that has been performed in over 18 countries over the past 14 years. It is produced by the famous theater group “Cinematograph” and directed by Rajat Kapoor, recipient of numerous international awards. The cast of this play includes several internationally renowned artists including Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak, Neil Bhoopalam, Aadar Malik, Puja Sarup, Mallika Singh and Mansi Multani.
The British Theater Guide calls it “a multi-layered play”, says The Hindu – “it’s gripping fare” – “the performances are jaw-dropping in its daring humour”. The Mumbai Theater Guide says – “It will bring out your eyes, your air and your heart.” “It’s fun, hard-hitting, instinctively comedic, and pleasantly approachable,” says Exeunt Magazine
HAMLET – The Clown Prince has won many awards such as: Winner of Mahindra Award for Best Director and Best Play and he is also winner of Best Play, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Costume Design at the Meta Festival.
This play is staged in tribute to the memory of Java’s father, the late Professor Satish Mehta, who was an award-winning writer and director, well known for pioneering Prayog (Experiment) Theater in Indore and Bhopal, in India, which worked successfully. and carrying on the legacy of creating and performing experimental theater for over 50 years. Professor Mehta’s son and Java’s brother Ameeya Mehta started Prayog’s NJ Chapter in 2015, continuing his father’s legacy of promoting a love of experimental theater.
A little about the director and the actors:
RAJAT KAPOOUR is an Indian actor, screenwriter and director well known for his outstanding work in Monsoon Wedding, Dil Chahta Hai, Kapoor and Sons, Bheja Fry, Ankhon Dekhi, Drishyam 1&2, Mithya, Gehraiyaan etc.
VINAY PATHAK is an accomplished stage and film actor. He acted in many films including Khosla Ka Ghosla, Bheja Fry, Island City, Fire, Bombay Boys, Chalo Dilli, Manorama six feet under, Johnny Gaddaar, Badlapur, Chintu ka Birthday, Ramprasad ke Tehrvi, Tashkent Files etc. supporting role in movies like Jism, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and My Name is Khan.
NEIL BHOOPALAM is an Indian television, theater and film actor. He is known for his roles in movies like No One Killed Jessica, Shaitan, NH10, Lust Stories, Ungli and Indian TV series 24. Bhoopalam started his career in Bollywood with the movie “Mera Dil Leke Dekho” although it is above all a scene actor of cinema. He has acted in several prominent plays such as Nadir Khan’s A Few Good Men and Rajat Kapoor’s Hamlet – The Clown Prince.
MANSI MULTANI is an Indian film actress. She is known for Bollywood movies Pari, Island City and Kadakh. She started her career as a theater artist. Mansi has been in over 600 plays. She has been continuously active in the film industry since the year 2010.
PUJA SARUP is a Mumbai-based actor, director and acting coach. She completed her Masters in Theater Arts at the University of Mumbai and studied at “Helikos: International School of Theater Creation” (Florence, Italy). She is co-founder of the theater company “Patchworks Ensemble”.
The play has a cast of nine of Mumbai’s top theater artists who will clown around and put on quite a show.
