American in Bali committed suicide due to depression: police
Bali police say an American tourist suffering from depression committed suicide at a villa in the Sukawati district of Gianyar Regency.
The victim, a 46-year-old resident bearing the initials HD, was found hanged in the bathroom at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The person who found her was an acquaintance who helped her overcome her difficulties.
“The witness accompanied the victim to the council. The victim suffered from severe depression, so she stayed [at the villa] for rehab and to find a peaceful place to stay,” said Sukawati compound leader Made Ariawan.
Police said HD had checked into the villa the day before and gone to yoga in the afternoon. Police suspect she hanged herself six hours before she was found on Tuesday.
In addition, police found antidepressants in the victim’s purse.
HD’s body is now in Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar as local authorities coordinate with the US Consulate for the next steps in the management of the victim’s remains.
