Just 15 minutes ago, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck near Sumbawa Besar, ID.17 Sumbawa (undefined), West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 12:09 a.m. local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was recorded by the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was then published by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), which classified it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake.
Based on preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused significant damage, but was likely felt by many as a slight vibration in the epicenter area.
Weak tremors could have been felt in Pototano (5,000 inhabitants) located 30 km from the epicenter and in Sumbawa Besar (52,700 inhabitants) 30 km away.
Other towns near the epicenter where the earthquake could have been felt as very weak tremors include Labuan Lombok (10,000 inhabitants) located 67 km from the epicenter and Labuan Lombok (10,000 inhabitants) 67 km away.
