Five elderly ladies have been arrested by police in Lingsar, West Lombok, for gambling.

Women with the initials WK, 75 years; NR, 54 years; KS, 57 years; WT, 80 years; and IWU, 81, were caught playing a card game called “Who is it”. This game is popular in West Sumatra and is used as entertainment among older women in the communities to bond. Gambling sometimes involves small bets of various items

However, who is it is considered gambling, which is illegal under Indonesian law, so Lingsar police from Punikan hamlet, Batu Mekar village, Lingsar 2022 arrested the mature women while gambling on Thursday last, April 7.

The police found a package of who is it cards and Rp64,000 in various denominations. The money included two Rp 10,000 notes, five Rp 5,000 notes, four Rp 2,000 notes and a number of Rp 1,000 coins.

“This is proof that they were playing, said Lingsar Police Chief Iptu Riski Meirika on Friday, April 8.

During the investigation, the five attackers admitted to playing with who is it, which they said was just for fun. It is suspected that they often played who is it in one of the attackers’ houses.

“They are neighbors, the distance from home between one player and another is not too great. Even if it’s a fad, if it’s called playing, it’s still playingadded Meirika.

The stakes are never too high. During the game, the value of the bet is between 2,000 and 5,000 Rp.

According to the evidence and confessions, they were charged under article 303 of the penal code. However, it will be communicated at a later date whether or not the grandmothers will be serving custodial sentences.

“Everything is still under investigation,“said Meirika.
